How to build a complex website?
I want to build a website that allows users to add content and pictures and is searchable by other users. I don’t know much code so would using a program like Dreamweaver help me make a site like this? Or is it necessary for me to learn something like PHP?
You need to learn a server-side scripting language such as PHP. You can use Dreamweaver for code editing, but you can’t create a content management system like that just by point-and-click.

You will need a database like mysql, php to manipulate the data and dynamically build the pages, and really good knowledge of site security.

Actually, take a good look at Wordpress. This is a fantastic, highly extensible, CMS system you can get for free.
You might find that someone has already written a plugin to do what you want. If not, you should be able to find something similar that you can tweak to get what you want.

You might like a coppermine gallery. With most hosts it’s a one click install with fantastico ,then you sign up with coppermine (free) and you log into your gallery and you can configure it from there. It’s pretty easy to do actually and you can let people who register with you to upload photos too.Coppermine can be used for other files as well as photos.
First you’ll need a great host and you can find the best ones here:

Just go with a host that has all the tools already..
I suggest you have a look at http://www.hosting24.com they will register a domain name for free for life and come with unlimited webspace and unlimited data transfer and you can go with them on a monthly basis.
They come with a website wizard and plenty of ready made scripts to accomplish what you are after.
Also when you sign up with them if you enter in a discount code they will give you 25% off their ridiculously cheap hosting plans. code to use is 25OFF
I host all my sites there and have been more than pleased with their help and support which is available by phone support! I hope this helps
