I am starting up a webiste and want to own the rights to my domain name. I have no idea which site is better. I have started building my website on wix.com and want to continue to use it or should I switch to whoever I buy the domaain name through. I am very confused on domain names. I am not sure how it works either.

It depends on how much you can get for your domain name. If it is just less than say $100, don’t bother wasting your time unless you really need that much cash.

how can i get a free domain name?

Top level domain names (Anything that is .com, .net, etc and not .something.com) cost money. The most popular (and to my knowledge, cheapest) place to register a domain is GoDaddy.com.
