How do we convince China and India to stop polluting the Earth?
I was watching the BBC’s ten O’Clock news last night and they had a report that says China has now become the world’s worst polluter they are building 2 coal power stations every week and you and me are contributing to this by buying TV’s and cars and other cheap products that come out of China.
We have that big concert coming up on 7th July how can we convince the leaders in China and India to stop what they are doing and start using reknewable sources. China has now over taken the UK and US to become the worlds biggest polluter. I mean when I see this happen I feel angry because all our hard work is being ruined by China and India. I do my bit I recycle and switch lights off and so forth. So what can we do to convince India and China most especially that what they are doing is going to make global warming worse.

I agree that America can do better (sounds like a school report card lol) by becoming less dependent on oil and sign up to the Kyoto agreement. Maybe when Bush is out of office something will be done but expect anything done under the Bush administration. But something has to be done about China.

Some of the answers here are goofy enough to be the plot for a "Three Stooges" episode. It does not matter at all that the US and the UK once were the worst polluters o so long ago. They were also the biggest producers. The US fed the world, and continues to supply a large part of the food and resources which drive the economies of the rest of the countries. We need to look at trends here. In both the US and the UK there is an awareness of environmental impact and both countries are much cleaner than before. China is going the other way! There is little to no effort to care for the environment at all, and one can see why this is so in a country where environmental dissenters are simply carted off to a prison camp or made to not-so-mysteriously disappear.
THe logic that China has no responsibility for its increasing pollution because the US and UK once were bad polluters is really, really stupid. Explain how excusing China from environmental responsibility because of past pollution by other nations does anything for the environment at all. Neither does having complete idiots like Algore and gang jetting around in their stinky private jets telling us all how our lawn mowers are killing polar bears, etc.

I didn’t hear you complaining about global warming when the US and the UK were the world’s biggest polluters.
Only RECENTLY has China overcome the US as largest producer of carbon emissions; where were you when the US still was?
Don’t make my country take all the blame; the US and the UK have both contributed more than enough to global warming, and we are not "ruining" any hard work. Who hasn’t signed the Kyoto agreement yet? Oh right, the US and Australia, both very industrialized countries but YOU choose to pick on poor, developing countries like China and India who HAVE joined the treaty and ARE trying to lessen their carbon emissions.
When you go kick Bush in the face and ask HIM why he’s not making more of an effort, and if he has a legitimate reason, which he doesn’t, THEN you can come back to me and tell me what my country’s doing wrong.

BULL SHIT COMPLAINT. YOU AMERICANS ARE SPOILING CHINA & INDIA. IN BHOPAL (INDIA) WHO KILLED 1000s of innocent Indian? Union Carbide. The American Company. All major polluting companies like Copper, Chemicals and Heavy Chemical companies including Dies and Chem are pushed in to India and China by USA. All Shitty Waste oil refinaries in China are with US Technologies or with US Money. US has a standard for Coke and Pepsi in US, but the same Coke & Pepsi in India is a pesticide. Sorry to say your view is a bit one sided. Consider this China and India have a much larger population than the US and yet until very recently we were the number 1 polluters. Please don’t feel so self righteous. The person who mentioned American companies being in China and India is right. We are over there contributing to their pollution and then turning around and pointing the finger at them.
Americans remain the biggest emitters per capita. According to UN data for 2003, U.S. individuals were responsible for 20 tons per capita of carbon dioxide emissions, compared with 3.2 tons in China and a world average of 3.7 tons.
Woo hoo looks like we need to work on the Us. Yes China and India need to work on their emissions but America need to even more. Consider even if China moves ahead of the Us, Americans still pollute more per person. Which is sad considering there are probably more factories in China than here. So your idea that "they (China and India) " are ruining "our" work comes off as arrogant and ignorant. I’m not really sure what the pollution figures are for the UK but if you want to do something look at America.
