How does a person figure out website hosting and uploading?

A friend of mine has created her website and such. However, she is at a loss to how or what would be the good method of getting a domain name, learning about web hosting and uploading her files so her website would be online.

What would be a secure method of doing all of that? She was thinking of using go daddy.

I’m posting this question for her as she’s embarrassed to ask.

For every website online, you need two things: a domain name (ie. "www.yahoo.com") and a hosting account (a place to store the information for your website online). Godaddy is a good company – I have used them many times. And they are cheap and reliable, with great customer service on the phone.
What she needs to do is buy a domain name from godaddy, then add a hosting account for the domain name and skip all the other ads they show. This should come to about $10.56 for the domain name and about $50 for the hosting account (for a year).

She can upload files using Godaddy’s hosting manager, but I would either use Dreamweaver (about $300 is the cheapest unless you are a student) or Frontpage (cheaper, but not sure on the price).

Once she has bought both the domain name and the hosting account, she should call Godaddy and have them walk her through finding the hosting manager and uploading files. They do that for free and are very helpful – I think the longest I’ve had to wait on hold to be helped is like 10 minutes, and usually it is more like 2 or 3. She can do this even if she is not using Godaddy’s hosting manager to upload files. They will help her set it up in frontpage or dreamweaver as well.
