website hosting?

what is website hosting?

Web site hosting is a server or collection of servers that run web server software such as Apache or Microsoft IIS and are connected to the internet. A web developer uploads files (web pages, images, and other media) to the server. IP (Internet Protocol) Addresses are assigned to each server/server farm by its router or hardware. A web developer will register a domain (ex. www.yahoo.com) with a domain registrar and provide the IP address of their server. This is sometimes referred to as a name server. When a user types in a domain, a web browser sends out a request to the internet where the domain name is translated to an IP address and connects the user to the appropriate server. The web server receives requests (clicking of links) and responds by send back the appropriate files to display in the browser.

Web Hosting can come is a wide variety of features and platforms but all basically perform the same functionality in serving web files to user requests. Dedicated hosting is for large web sites that require a lot of bandwidth and storage. Shared hosting splits a server into virtual directories so many different web sites can be hosted on the same box.

Website hosting companies have servers (computers) that host you webpage files. They usually provide you with tools to build your website, they back it up for you, etc. Very good if you want to have a small business online store, or just have a place to have a website. Your ISP may provide you with web hosting. Different hosting companies give you different deals in terms of total available disk space, bandwidth (i.e., how much upload/download from your site), etc.

A web site hosting is publishing some set of HTML pages in internet.

To start a new website, you have to register a url for your website such "www.yahoo.com, http://www.google.com". During registration, they will give you 20 MB – 100 MB Internet memory space depends upon package, where you can store your data.

You can use this space to publish any information available to all internet users, just by typing your url in their browser.

To publish something in those pages, you have to write a HTML code and css and/or javascript. After developed your web pages, you have to link those pages collectively. This is called website.

To make your website available to everyone, you have to use any FTP tools and upload (loading your files from your computer to internet) the files. This is called Web Hosting.

If you want your Web Site to be visible to the world, it has to be Hosted on a Web Server.

    # Web hosting means storing your web site on a public server.
    # Web hosting normally includes domain name registration & email services.

To view your web site, you must copy your site to a public server. Even if you can use your own PC as a web server, it is more common to let an Internet Service Provider (ISP) host your site.

When someone sends a request to this web server by typing the website address (ex: http://www.somewebsite.com), it will immediately contact the web server and sends back the information in the form of web pages…as you see the Homepage, about us page…etc.
