Will growth of online computer shopping services ultimately eliminate the need for retailers and wholesalers?

It is noted that on-line computer shopping services like those available through AOL, Yahoo, Prodigy,and elsewhere in the internet are making it possible for individual consumers to get direct information from hundreds of companies they would not otherwise know about. In many cases, consumers can use the computer to place an order for a purchase that is then shipped to them directly. Will growth of these services ultimately eliminate the need for retailers and wholesalers?What marketing functions are involve in this "electronic purchases" and who performs them?

It will definitely get rid of physical retailers. Not wholesalers so much because they do offer the lower prices. If anything, the wholesale industry will grow because of the overwhelming competition to have the lowest prices.

Product – SELL ANYTHING

Place – ONLINE

Promotion – SPACE ADVERTISING & EMAIL – DIRECT MAILERS

Price – CHEAPER THAN MOST PHYSICAL STORES

This is possibly what will cause lots of these stores to close their doors, no matter what they are no competition for the internet.

    Hi Mike,

    Yes, very serious concern.
    Yes, these BIG SHARKs will affect some small fishes.
    But as a SEA always take care of small fishes as well. So these companies will never be eliminated.
